Workplace design


Workplace Design has to satisfy a large number of requirements. It should create conditions that - on both a physical and psychological level - are appropriate and help boost employee output. At the same time, it is important to protect the health and wellbeing of employees.

There are three different aspects to workplace design:

The ergonomic aspect dictates that the conditions at a workplace should:

  • Be compatible with the physical proportions of personnel (anthropometric design),
  • Be adapted to suit the physical requirements of personnel,
  • Minimise the psychological Workload in the workplace,
  • Comply with occupational health and safety requirements.

The organisational aspect of workplace design focuses on:

  • Configuring and structuring working practices,
  • Determining how to divide up Work,
  • Organising working time.

The technological and ergonomic aspect of workplace design addresses primarily:

  • The interaction between personnel and machinery,
  • Mechanisation and automation,
  • Technical equipment.
