Wood-fibre materials

Wood-fibre materials are Wood derivatives made from sawmill by-products, wood and also the woody fibres of renewable plants.

If necessary, an adhesive is added during the production of fibrous materials to create a fibre mat that is subsequently compacted. A distinction is made between wet and dry processes.

Wet processes are used to produce the following:

  • Low-density softboard for thermal and Sound insulation
  • Medium board
  • Hardboard, which is used for formwork, packaging and interior joinery
  • Tempered hardboard

When producing boards using the dry process, a distinction is made according to the level of fibre mat compaction:

  • Medium-density fibreboard (MDF), which is very homogeneous and solid
  • High-density fibreboard (HDF), which is normally used as a substrate for e.g. laminate
