Description:
Spline shafts are a type of profiled Shaft that create Mechanically locked connections. The shaft has a special profile, with the Hub acting as the counterpart. Different numbers of splines with parallel edges are used depending on the purpose. A distinction is made between internally centred spline-shaft connections, in which the core is responsible for centring, and externally centred spline-shaft connections, in which the edges of the specially shaped profile are responsible for centring. Internal centring achieves good concentricity. Internally centred spline shafts are therefore often used for making machine tools. They also enable the hub to be moved during operation. Edge-centred connections, on the other hand, are suitable for impact or alternating torques because of their low rotational clearance.
