Vakuumformen

Vacuum forming

In the case of vacuum Forming, a vacuum is used to deep draw a film over the model for a one-off (expendable) mould and a pouring basin and feeder are formed. The mould box is backfilled with binder-free quartz sand and compacted by vibration. After a film cover is applied, the mould is stabilised in a vacuum (0.3 to 0.6 bar) and the Casting liquid is poured in. The vacuum is maintained until the moulded part hardens. The castings fall out of the mould once the vacuum is released. This usually dispenses with the need for tools to lift them out.

Depending on the shape required, models are made of precision-casting wax, metal or plastic

The advantages of this process lie in its reproducible dimensional accuracy and high surface qualities. Vacuum moulds are suitable for fast and cost-effective mould manufacture and for small-series to large-Scale production.
