Castigliano's theorem

Castigliano's theorem describes the relationship between deformation Work W and the resultant displacement ${{w}_{f}}$ and/or twisting ${{\alpha }_{M}}$ of a component. Either a Force F or a moment M is responsible for the deformation.

The following applies: ${{w}_{f}}=\frac{\partial W}{\partial F}$ or ${{\alpha }_{m}}=\frac{\partial W}{\partial M}$.

This relationship between Deformation work and displacement/twisting applies only to Hookean materials. Such materials are characterised by a linear correlation between stress $\sigma $ and strain $\varepsilon $/ shear $\gamma $.

Deformations can be determined using Castigliano's theorem without the need for Bending differential equations. Displacement or twisting that does not take place directly at a point of force application can also be calculated using this theorem. Conversely, Castigliano's theorem can be applied to determine the force F or the moment M that caused a known deformation.

以下公式成立: ${{w}_{f}}=\frac{\partial W}{\partial F}$ or ${{\alpha }_{m}}=\frac{\partial W}{\partial M}$ .
