Freedom of movement

Freedom of movement is a basic necessity for the wellbeing of employees at a workstation.

The workstation and the associated, unobstructed area must be large enough that the user can move freely while carrying out his or her Work. If this is not possible, adequate space for movement should be provided in close proximity to the workstation.

The following elements are important to freedom of movement:

• Compliance with safety clearances
• Sufficient space to allow movement (free space and active space, i.e. the minimum area of movement of people and their limbs according to the activity and minimum and safety clearances).
• The avoidance of physiologically poor body posture
• The ability to handle objects in a way that is physiologically safe and does not cause fatigue
