Ursache für einen Dauerbruch ist die sogenannte Ermüdung des Werkstoffes.

Der aus einer Schwingbeanspruchung resultierende Bruch eines Bauteils wird als Dauerbruch bezeichnet.

Ein durch statische Belastung entstehender Bruch wird als Gewaltbruch bezeichnet, ein durch dynamische Belastung entstehender Bruch als Dauerbruch.
