Product Ramp-Up

English

Production ramp-up

Description: Production ramp-up follows product development and Design and usually comprises four stages. One or more prototypes that match the final product in terms of functionality and design are manufactured from existing descriptions and design plans. These prototypes are used to validate the product. Production sequences are initially planned on a virtual basis. This planning is used for a Pre-production run, during which the production sequences are tested under real conditions. The subsequent Pilot run is manufactured under series production conditions. The supply of parts and tools is checked during this stage. When production is initiated, the actual production ramp-up is run at slower cycle times so as to minimise the effects of weak points. The aim of a well organised production ramp-up is to get the product launched onto the market as quickly as possible (i.e. to minimise time-to-market).
