truss
Description:
A truss is a structure comprising several members. The points at which the members meet are referred to as joints or nodes. Only forces act on the joints, not moments. The number of joints is indicated by k, the number of members by s. Trusses are usually made up of several triangular units, each comprising three interconnected members (e.g. members 1 + 2 + 3) that are arranged side by side. The members along the top of a truss are called the top chords (members 4 + 8), while the members along the bottom are called the bottom chords (members 2 + 6 + 10). In practice, profile members meet at panel points or gusset plates that are joined using bolts, rivets or welded seams.
