automated guided vehicle system (Neutro)

Description: In automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems, floor conveyors operate automatically. A distinction is made between fixed-path and free-ranging systems. The path in fixed-path systems can comprise lane lines with integrated sensors, alternating current wires, magnetic or reflector strips, mechanical guide rails or roller rails. In the case of free-ranging systems, the vehicle's path is controlled using software by incorporating it into a model of the surroundings. Positional coordinates are measured constantly to control the vehicle movements. If setpoint comparisons identify deviations during a Control loop, the steering motor corrects the vehicle's course. Positions are determined using technologies such as laser radar, GPS, ultrasound and inertial navigation. AGVs feature floor conveyors such as lift trucks, haulers and side loaders. They are used to connect workstations and can also be used as mobile workstations. They are employed in the incoming and outgoing goods sections of a Warehouse and at packaging and order-picking stations. For reasons of safety, automated guided vehicle systems travel at no more than walking speed.
