surface deviation (Neutro)

Description: A surface deviation on engineering surfaces is the deviation of a surface from its nominal shape. There are six surface deviation classes. Class 1 indicates the error of form and class 2 the waviness. Classes 3 to 6 relate to roughness - classes 3 and 4 to the surface roughness caused by grooves, score marks, bumps and scale, and classes 5 and 6 to the material's structural composition and lattice structure respectively. If several types of deviation are present at the same time, this is referred to as superposition. Various methods are used to measure surface deviations. A cross-section perpendicular to the surface is one very popular option. Errors of form are measured over the entire functional surface, while waviness and roughness can also be checked over parts of the surface.

(Neutro)
