dovetail guide
Description:
A dovetail guide is a type of slide-Bearing Straight-line guide and a specially shaped wraparound guide. They can accommodate loads in any direction and stop the slide tipping over and lifting off. The slide features a dovetail-shaped strip that slots into an appropriately shaped groove (e.g. hydrostatic gaps) and moves along the table. Because its surfaces are inclined, a dovetail guide does not need clamping strips. However, it can be fitted with adjustment elements to compensate for play and wear. Clamping screws can be used as required to fix the slide in one position. Dovetail guides are more expensive to produce but - due to the absence of clamping strips - can also be used in applications involving low construction heights. They are less susceptible to Oscillation and frictional vibration than roller guides, however, plain bearings do exhibit a slip-stick phenomenon that generates vibration. Adequate Dimensioning prevents deflection.
