Strength testing

Strength tests are amongst the most important test methods in Material testing. They correspond to various basic load cases and are used, for example, to determine a material's tensile, compressive, Bending, torsional or finite-life fatigue strength.

Strength tests can be grouped into accelerated (low-cycle) and long-term (high-cycle) methods and also into static and dynamic methods.

Static accelerated test methods:

  • Tensile test
  • Compression test
  • Bending test
  • Torsional test

Static long-term test methods:

  • Creep rupture test (creep test)
  • Stress-Relaxation test (relaxation test)

Dynamic accelerated test methods:

  • Notched bar impact test
  • Tensile impact test

Dynamic long-term test methods:

  • Low cycle Fatigue test
  • One-step / staircase test
  • Engineering strength test
