Primary shaping

Primary shaping is used to give a shapeless material (powder, liquid, fibres, chips, granules, melt, etc.) an initial geometric form and create cohesion.

The processes employed depend on the state of the materials. Processes for liquid substances include Casting and Die casting, processes for gaseous substances include metal evaporation, processes for Plastics include Injection moulding and Extrusion, and processes for granules or powder include Sintering. There are also processes for shaping from pulpy, chip-based, fibrous and ionised substances.

Depending on the form of the products and intended further processing, products can also be divided into

  • Products to be further processed by Cutting, Joining, Forming or Separating
  • Products whose form and dimensions resemble the finished components and that are usually further processed by machining.
  • Metal powders that are obtained from the atomized melt during forming and that are used to produce sinter parts in powder metallurgical manufacturing.

Urformen

Formado primario
