When tools are not in contact with a magnet over their entire surface area, they normally rotate around their point of contact.

The lines of action for the forces must each run through the point of contact and the centre of the ball/roller.

Line contact ensures there are support lines along the outer edges of the groove flanks that can offer a defined point of contact for profile end faces, flange plates and such like.
