Magnesium is normally only used as an Alloy and not in its pure form for technical applications.
The main alloying elements are Al, Mn, Si and Zn. Cast or wrought Magnesium alloys are increasingly being used instead of Al alloys because they are lighter and easier to machine. Due to their low melt viscosity, magnesium die-Casting alloys are ideal for large, thin-walled components that can be cast in short cycle times at low pressure.
Wrought magnesium alloys are increasingly being used for lightweight structures in automotive engineering.
