Contact voltage
Description:
Contact voltage is the result of a difference in potential Forming between two adjacent bodies with different chemical compositions. When the two touch, the body with the lower number of electrons gains charge carriers from the one with the higher number of electrons. This charge separation causes an electrochemical double layer to form. The associated potential jump is the contact voltage or touch voltage. In the case of electric conductors, the contact voltage is just a few volts, while in the case of insulators it can be ( 10,000 volts. If the bodies are separated again, the double layer ruptures and Frictional electricity is generated. This causes the contact voltages, some of which are very high. In the case of conductive materials, contact voltage is referred to as the Volta effect. Contact voltage is a phenomenon of contact electricity.
