Tolerance ring

Description: Tolerance rings are a type of friction-based fastening element with an elastic link. These spring Steel rings have a Shaft profile stamped into them. An open Design (star tolerance rings) is also available to prevent circumferential expansion during deformation. The rings are press-fitted between Hub and shaft, often in flat ring grooves. The components generate radial forces on the Bearing surface of the rings themselves when an outer part is drawn over the tolerance ring on the inner part. The transferable torque depends on the width of the ring, the Material and the shaft profile. Tolerance rings can also compensate for relatively large tolerances and misalignments between shaft and hub. In addition to this, they are used when differences in Thermal expansion between shaft and hub need to be balanced out. They are often installed in roller bearings.
