Blech (dick)
plate
Description:
A plate is a three-dimensional component with a thickness t and a flat, planar form. The thickness t is small compared to the component's other dimensions. Plates are designed primarily for perpendicular loads. The distributed transverse forces ${{q}_{x}}$ and ${{q}_{y}}$ act on the isolated plate element. The load-exerting distributed moments $({{m}_{x}},{{m}_{y}},{{m}_{xy}})$ are applied around the axes in the plate plane. There is no moment around the plate normals. This is a characteristic feature of plates. If a plate has an infinitesimally small thickness t, it is referred to as a slice. Slices can only be subjected to two-dimensional loads. Shells are slices with a doubly curved surface.
