versiegeln (Verb)

English

seal (Verb)

Description: Seals are elements or structures that stop or limit the transfer of substances from two or more areas into another area. For example, seals prevent the penetration of dirt and foreign bodies (bellows) and stop lubricants and other media leaking into the environment (stuffing box). Seals are also used to separate operating media that are different or in different states. Contact, non-contact and hermetic seals are available and they can be permanent, non-permanent or semi-permanent. A further distinction is made according to whether seals are used in static applications, i.e. to seal stationary components, or in dynamic applications, i.e. to seal components that move relative to each other. Sealing technology is subject to growing demands in terms of performance, energy efficiency and environmental compatibility.
    Example sentences:
  • A special Lid Profile is used to seal the conduit.
  • The ends of the Warning and Protective Profiles are sealed by flexible Caps.
  • As a result, the entire guide axis is compact and sealed.
