Lebensdauerkosten
Life cycle costs
Description:
Life cycle costs are the costs that accrue throughout the entire life cycle of a product from when the idea is first conceived, through development, production and use to disposal or recycling. They can be direct (such as operating costs) and indirect (such as transport costs). Life cycle costs are thus any costs that the product user has to meet. Life cycle costs consist of: Initial costs (as depreciation plus rate of interest or cost price minus resale price) One-off costs (such as transport, commissioning, disposal) Operating costs (energy, operating materials) Maintenance costs Other costs (insurance, outage costs, costs for interest on capital accounts) For the user's sake, it is important to minimise life cycle costs as much as possible from as early as the Design stage.
