Powder coating

Description: Powder Coating is a coating method that involves applying a coating of powder to an electrically conductive material. This is mostly done in an automatic conveyor system. Prior to coating, the workpiece's surface is cleaned and possibly pretreated by applying a conversion layer. Following intermediate drying, the workpiece passes through an electrically charged cloud of powder in a coating zone. The charged powder particles are deposited on the workpiece surface and remain there due to electrostatic adhesion. After reaching a saturation limit, the particles are stoved in a dryer where they are melted and then cooled after a holding phase to form a layer. Powder coating is mostly used for Steel, galvanised steel and aluminium, primarily for parts used to make household appliances, furniture and now also cars. Epoxy and polyester resins are popular powder coatings. Because of the electric charges involved, powder coating demands a high safety Standard to protect employees against explosions and health problems.
