Description: Contact pressure p is a distribution of the Normal stress over the contact surface A of two bodies. To simplify matters in the case of a contact pressure between curved surfaces, a mean contact pressure is determined, factoring in the projected surface. The contact pressure is often a vital factor in Dimensioning components and solid joints. Depending on the load type (static, pulsating, alternating), the permissible contact pressure must be compared with the active contact pressure and the component dimensioned accordingly. In the case of Shaft-Hub joints, the Joint's Strength is based on the effect of the contact pressure. Contact pressures also occur between Gear teeth and between the head of a screw and the element in which the screw is inserted.
