continuous casting (Neutrum)

Description: During continuous casting, semi-finished or primary products are processed continuously or in batches in continuous Casting moulds to produce castings (strands). Castings can be rolled ingots, rolled slabs or Extrusion billets (blanks) made of Iron or non-ferrous alloys. The metallic melt flows into vertical or horizontal continuous casting moulds. This is where solidification starts. The moulds are cooled from inside or behind with water. The resulting strand is regularly separated off and cooled. Steel continuous casting systems are available as vertical, vertical turn-out, circular-arc and oval-bow machines. During wire and strip casting, the casting rollers or casting wheels incorporate the profile of the desired product. The melt solidifies before the casting hits the open air. When casting with moving moulds, Forming tools are often connected downstream to cut out some manufacturing stages. Casting rollers enable near-net-shape casting for sheet products, thin slabs (50 to 90 mm), roughed strips (10 to 15 mm) and strips (1 to 5 mm).
