Description: Cladding is both a manufacturing and Coating process, during which Welding techniques are used to cover a base Material with a cladding material in order to produce a high-quality surface. Typically, a coating material is melted and applied to a component surface to form a firmly adhering layer. This technique is primarily used to protect component surfaces from Wear and corrosion, create intermediate layers in surfaces and maintain and repair worn surfaces. The component body acts as a carrier with sufficient elastic properties. The coating acts as a functional surface, protecting the component from stresses such as corrosion, wear and/or adverse temperatures. Cladding offers numerous benefits, for example it is not highly dependent on component geometry, ensures excellent adhesion between the carrier material and coating, creates densely packed layers and supports good heat conduction from the cladding to the component. All common welding methods can be used in cladding. Both manual and mechanised methods are employed, such as: Gas surfacing Manual Electric arc welding Gas metal arc welding Plasma arc welding Laser cladding When working with large components and a high throughput, high-performance processes such as submerged arc strip cladding and electroslag strip cladding are often used.
