Electric Arc Furnace

Description: Alongside Electric arc welding, electric arc furnaces are an important area of application for electric arc heating. Electric arc furnaces are used to melt Steel for further processing. A three-phase electric arc furnace comprises three electrodes that are connected to the steel to be melted via an electric arc. The thermal energy delivers temperatures of up to approximately 3,500 °C and heats the steel to above its melting point. The time between the two Tapping processes - i.e. the time in which a melt can be produced for further processing - is typically between 45 and 90 minutes. A special Power Transformer supplies the requisite power and is responsible for the correct operation of the furnace. The electric power of arc furnaces ranges from around 10 MVA to 100 MVA.
