Asynchronous machines are subdivided into slip ring rotors, squirrel cage rotors and single-phase asynchronous motors. The stepper motor is a synchronous motor in which the motor's rotor can move in small steps. A synchronous machine combines two means of generating rotary fields - the stator's three-phase winding and the rotor.
